Screening / 2025
Saturday, November 29th at 6:00pm
825 Pacific Street

Curated by Maya Jeffereis.

This screening brings together films and videos set across Hawaiʻi, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, and beyond. These filmmakers turn to personal archives to trace moments of loss, inheritance, and anticipation, revisiting and reimagining memories carried across distance and time. Through experimental approaches to the home movie, these artists contemplate their position and self in relation to place and belonging, within histories marked by repression, occupation, and displacement. Here, the personal image becomes a site of care and continuity, a counter-narrative to state-sanctioned erasure, and an assertion of presence through quiet persistence.

Screening: Maya Jeffereis, Simon Liu, Pegah Pasalar, Rajee Samarasinghe, and Nadia Shihab, followed by a Q&A with the guest curator.
