Workshop / 2026
Saturday, May 16th from 1-4pm
XINEMA's Fieldhouse (5050 Wales Street)
Join us for a workshop facilitated by visiting filmmaker and programmer Dominick Rivers, presented in correspondence with his guest curated program Controlled Demolition.
Mordançage is an alternative photographic process that causes the silver gelatin to appear distressed, resulting in reticulation & forming ghostly veils in the emulsion. While this process was originally developed for photographic prints, it has stunning results with moving images. Traditional mordançage employs caustic chemicals & can only be used with b&w film.
This workshop will introduce an eco approach which can be used for b&w and color film using exclusively compostable materials.
All workshop materials provided! Participants are welcome to bring personal 16mm footage to experiment with. The resulting footage will be spliced together and screened at Controlled Demolition.
